Powdered Antifoam Products

TRANS-2112 Powdered Silicone Antifoam

COMPOSITION AND REGULATORY STATUS

TRANS-2112 is a proprietary, powdered, silicone antifoam designed to control foam in aqueous systems such as food processing applications and fermentations. TRANS-2112 utilizes only food-grade, nonionic components and contains only ingredients that are recognized by qualified experts as safe in food products according to the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 173.340. It may therefore be safely used as a secondary direct food additive in an amount not to exceed 50 parts per million (ppm) residual TRANS-2112 remaining in the finished foodstuff. TRANS-2112 is also USDA-approved for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants; and is listed per 40 CFR 180.1001 for pesticide applications. Please consult the Code of Federal Regulations for further clarification on antifoam usage in your particular food-grade application.

APPLICATION AND USAGE GUIDELINES

As an antifoaming agent, TRANS-2112 finds utility in biotechnology/fermentation applications, food processing, brewing, pharmaceutical and water treatment applications. It is especially useful when blended with other powdered or dry products subject to foam formation when the consumer reconstitutes them with water. Examples include: dehydrated soup mixes, instant beverages, powdered detergents and fertilizers. When used in biotechnology applications, TRANS-2112 will not alter microbial growth rates or lower yields. It is compatible in most applications involving ultrafiltration membranes and is non-toxic and autoclavable.

To control foam, the recommended method of application is to add TRANS-2112 directly to the foaming product or process. Pre-diluted aqueous dispersions of TRANS-2112 are not recommended. Each foaming problem is unique and requires different treatment levels of antifoam. Use only the minimum amount of TRANS-2112 required to control the foam. Trial testing will be necessary to optimize the amount of antifoam used in a given process. A good starting point is 0.010% by weight in an industrial aqueous system or fermentation. Food-grade applications are subject to a federally defined legal maximum permissible level of 50 parts per million (ppm) residual TRANS-2112 remaining in the finished foodstuff. In the unlikely event that ultrafiltration membrane fouling should occur, the antifoam can be flushed out and the system cleaned with an appropriate cleaning agent. As with any antifoam or defoamer, thorough testing should always be conducted to determine the suitability and compatibility of the antifoam with the foaming system and processing equipment.

STORAGE

TRANS-2112 antifoam is stable and long lasting. The product should be stored in sealed containers in a dry environment, and at storage temperature of between 50° and 100° F. TRANS-2112 antifoam should be used within twelve months from the date of purchase.

TRANS-414

TRANS-414 powdered antifoam is a free-flowing granular formula designed for direct incorporation into laundry detergents and other powdered detersive systems prone to excessive foam. The active ingredients are silicone-based.
